Valentine’s Day Delivery Guide

Valentine’s day is fast approaching and many of us will be thinking about what we can do to show our partners that we are thinking of them. Of course, we’d all like to see our partners and give them gifts in person, but this isn’t always possible. However, not all hope is lost as you can still arrange for your special letters and gift to be delivered. Even if you’re not apart, it can be exciting for your partner to receive a surprise delivery.

Arranging your collection

To ensure that your delivery arrives on time, do not leave sending things until the last minute. Having said that, if you are thinking of sending something like a bouquet of flowers don’t be too early. If you are, they may end up wilting before reaching your loved one’s doorstep. It isn’t the end of the world but a dying flower may send the wrong message!

At Speed Couriers, we have an online guest booking system which will enable you to arrange collection of your items. Our team aims to collect any consignment within an hour so you don’t have to wait for too long.

Sending a gift abroad

Although it might be tempting to send a long-distance lover a gift, it’s always important to understand what restrictions you may face. In the UK and many other countries there are restrictions on the delivery of alcohol, fragrances, and even chocolates. Before you make your ideas a reality check to see if what you are sending won’t be delayed or worse, prevented from being delivered all together.

When you’re sending an item internationally you will also need to make considerations for customs. When you complete your order, you should be provided with a customs document that is to be attached to your parcel. Place a spare set of these documents inside the parcel for security.  You will need to be meticulous when filling in this document as one mistake could lead to additional charges.

The majority of shipments outside of the EU will be liable for customs duty and tax. These fees are charged by the customs authority, not your courier. Some countries will have an import exemption amount on the tax for gifts and personal items below a certain value.

Don’t forget about packaging

Packaging your gifts properly is imperative. Sometimes your items will have to travel many miles before reaching their destination. Packaging your item properly is something you can do to help ensure your items arrive safely and intact.

On Valentine’s we understand that you may want to make all of your gifts look pretty, including the packaging. However, it is best not to overly embellish your parcel with fancy decorations for these decorations may be removed during transit. Instead, we recommend putting your wrapped and decorated items inside a plain box so that they remain in the best possible condition.

We hope that this little guide helps with your Valentine’s preparations. For more delivery tips and tricks, be sure to keep up to date with our blog.
