The car-centric tend to point out is that roads are solely for cars. Unfortunately, no such reservation can be made. Our roads have existed for many years but it is only in recent years that a conclusion that cars have the ultimate right of way has been reached. Before the likes of bikes, horses and wagons commanded the road, which resonates that how we get from A to B will continue to change. The hype surrounding autonomous vehicles is built up by the day and perhaps one day they will snatch the limelight away from our cars.

Cyclists should make their presence well-known amidst the engine take-over of most streetscapes. Wear brightly coloured clothing and indicate when a turn of direction is to be executed. However, it takes two to tango. Bicycles lanes separate our roads efficiently, so driving there is a big no-no. Staying vigilant will keep both sides safe; check your mirrors and the road properly before exiting a vehicle or overtaking a cyclist.
