Autonomous vehicles are constantly surfacing in the news with leading companies hoping to be the frontrunner of their design. But, when autonomous designs hit the roads they won’t necessarily be dubbed for individual usage. Public transportation is a begrudgingly valued commodity in many of our daily lives. For those who live in a city public transport such as buses play a big role in saving money.

A company based in Arizona (US) called Local Motors combines both the interest in autonomous motors and public accessibility with their concept “Olli”. IBM Watson’s IoT cognitive computing capabilities are integrated which allows the machine to understand us.

Met Olli, the autonomous bus that can comfortably seat 12 people. As Olli grows the hope is that like Uber Olli will be able to arrive at a destination when summoned simply by tapping a few buttons on a mobile app. The creators of Olli aim to assemble Olli in just 11 hours. The quick assembly is achievable with its unique 3D printed construction. Currently, this shuttle is exclusive to Washington but if regulations give the OK, Olli could be seen internationally on roads much sooner than other projects underway from the likes of Google.
